There are, at least as far as I see it, two reasons why you would want to use hotkeys: you will get things done faster and you will look cooler doing things Hollywood-style (just like in the movies, where no one ever uses the mouse, they just type away at the keyboard). slimKeys comes with a built in list of hotkeys for performing various actions, such as launching an application, adjust the volume, or performing a Google search.

The slimKeys installation file is a lightweight 1.2Mb in size; it will take but a moment to get the file onto your machine. Through the installation process you will be guided by a setup wizard. So download a small file, run it, go through the onscreen instructions presented by a setup wizard, and moments later you will have slimKeys up and running.

When you run slimKeys for the first time, it will present you with a “Welcome to slimKeys” prompt that invites you to check out the getting started instructions for all the application’s plug-ins: slimGRAB (capture portions of the screen), slimLAUNCH (launch an application, document or folder), slimLAUNCH.FileSystem (search and open files and folders, slimLAUNCH.Passwords (manage password stores), slimPASTE (paste text), slimSEARCH (enter queries and search on Google, Yahoo!, and other search engines), slimSIZE (move the active window), slimSMOKE (gray out inactive Windows), slimVOLUME (adjust the volume level), and slimZOOM (zoom in).

All the slimKeys hotkeys are displayed as a list on its interface. You can view and edit the built-in hotkeys and you can easily add more.

Using slimKeys is a matter of remembering what each hotkey does. To perform an online search, for example, you must hit Ctrl + Win + S. Type in a query, hit enter, and the search will be performed with Google. Type in a “W” before your query, and the search will be performed on Wikipedia instead.

There are many things you can do with slimKeys and the nice thing is that you can do them all with hotkeys.

Pros

slimKeys is a free application. It comes with a built-in list of hotkeys that you can edit. Easily add more hotkeys to the list. You can do a lot of things with hotkeys thanks to slimKeys.

Cons

None that I could think of.
